Akamai’s recent acquisition of Prolexic is right on the money. It’s a great buy that extends their existing security portfolio by a magnitude of 3x. Prolexic is a heavy hitter in the DDOS protection space and miles ahead of the competition.
Akamai’s recent acquisition of Prolexic is right on the money. It’s a great buy that extends their existing security portfolio by a magnitude of 3x. Prolexic is a heavy hitter in the DDOS protection space and miles ahead of the competition.
Prolexic has invested tens of millions of dollars in their security infrastructure. Here is a summary of their infrastructure: hardware and software deployed in multiple POPs, 24x7x365 NOC that monitors threats in real time, advanced tools for detecting and mitigating threats, highly skilled security experts, four scrubbing centers that filters DDOS traffic and pass through only clean traffic to customer sites, and the list goes on.
On top of that, they have partnered with multiple Tier 1 carriers like Level 3 purchasing hundreds of Gbps in the process. Now all this belongs to Akamai. They’ll leverage this great set of assets to up-sell existing clients and attract new clients. The scary part of this, no other service provider will be able to match Akamai’s breadth, depth and expertise of their new security portfolio including the big carriers.
