CloudFlare added a POP in Lima Peru bringing its total POP count to 29 CDN POPs
Over the last 12 months CloudFlare’s LatAm traffic has increased 10x
CloudFlare has plans to add 12 POPs in Mainland China in the next 6 months. That’s a very aggressive roll out. Matthew Price stated that China is its 2nd largest market based on traffic. CloudFlare will be working with a local partner in China, whose name was not revealed. Last time we checked there was three CDNs registered to do business in China: ChinaCache, ChinaNetCenter and CDNetworks. The first two are based in China and CDNetworks is owned by KDDI in Japan. ChinaNetCenter has data centers and a CDN in China. Our guess the partner is ChinaNetCenter.
MaxCDN
MaxCDN has finally added Origin Shield protectionto its product line, which is similar to Origin Cloaking from EdgeCast. Most CDNs offer this feature, as it protects a customer’s origin servers by allowing only authorized IP addresses to communicate with the origin. This is must-have feature that helps thwart direct to origin DDoS attacks.
Amazon CloudFront
Amazon dropped prices for three services – two of them on the CloudFront service. The first price drop occurred on the “Data Transfer to CloudFront” service which we refer to as an Intra-CDN fee where Amazon charges on traffic delivered from AWS to CloudFront. The new price is zero, which puts them in line with other CDNs since they don’t charge Intra-CDN traffic fees. The next price drop occurred on the standard CDN services for the 10TB/month plan in US & Europe. The price dropped 29% to $.085/GB, which equates to $850/month + # of request fee.
EdgeCast
KT Corp (formerly Korea Telecom) and Verizon EdgeCast CDN have entered into a multi-year agreement. KT will leverage the EdgeCast CDN platform in Korea. EdgeCast offers Carriers three different types of products 1) Wholesale which enables Carriers to resell to resellers such as hosting companies 2) White-label reseller accounts for hosting companies like SoftLayer and Rackspace that sell directly to end users and 3) License CDN which is similar to Akamai’s – in this arrangement Carriers license the software to build a CDN on their carrier network to serve the local market
